April Showers Bring May Flowers & Brides are Providing the Crowning Jewels

courtesy of habitatevents.com

Forget the diamonds and pearls.  You can keep your tulle and lace… because brides everywhere are flocking to flowers when it comes to finishing their looks, and the result is nothing short of stunning.

Breathtaking baby’s breath.  Powerful peonies.  Radiant roses.  Delicate daisies.  Lovely lilies and greens of grandeur all come together in one of this spring’s hottest trends: Flower Crowns!

Their popularity can really only be defined by their versatility.  Sure, it’s easy to picture your happily clad, hippie friend or a Boho-chic beauty when you think of these blossoming toppers, but just below the surface of the obvious, there’s a whole new audience delightfully delving into this Mother Nature inspired trend.

Because the crowns can be anything from avant garde and over-the-top to softly serene and ethereal, they really are something every bride can adjust to her particular taste.  Not to mention, they can make for an incredibly easy and fun DIY wedding project! Check out below and see what I mean :)

Weddings and Vikings and Mullets… Oh My!

I’m sure all of you are probably wondering what in the Sam Hill do Vikings and mullets have to do with weddings… but please, I urge all of you to stick with me here.  And I do this for a number of reasons, but if for nothing else, stick with me for the sheer fact that the most infamous ’do(not) ever: the mullet is a part of the story… and anything that puts business in the front and a party in the back deserves a head nod at the very least.

Now, let me first begin by saying, I’m a HA-HUGE football fan.  Ingrained in my blood, I get the night before Christmas butterflies every time I step out for a tailgate.  I love the rugged nature and American-ness that football brings to the sport’s world.  I love that it’s something my Mister and I can watch (and enjoy!) together.  I love that it’s associated with finger foods, cold brews and delicious dips covered in cheese, but most of all, I love football for the good ‘ole boys who play it… especially the ones rockin’ a mullet.

Enter: Minnesota Viking’s defensive end, Jared Allen

Allen - currently the most famed defensive specialist to sport a mullet - has been quoted in the past saying, “It’s not a mullet.  It’s a lifestyle.”  For obvious reasons, this type of reasoning for strength has been humorously scoffed at over the years, but I can gosh darn guarantee you just as many people will <siiiiighhhhhhh> over the reason he finally decided to lop it off.

That’s right, this sacking machine trimmed to a fresh crew cut for (drum roll, please) the love of a woman… and her love of mullet free wedding photography.  <siiiiighhhhhhh>  See, I told you there’d be sighing :)

See, who said chivalry is dead?  Jared Allen proves that even giant, QB scaring NFL players can have soft spots… especially if the right woman comes along.  And who can’t get behind that?  This will surely be a marriage made in mullet free heaven :)

And because mullets are so funny, here are some of Jared Allen’s mullet’s finer moments… check the razor stripes, my personal fave:

Carrie Underwood: Keepin’ it Country for Her Wedding & I Dig It!

One thing that I will forever and always stress to any bride is how important it is to look and be “you” on your wedding day… of course the prettiest, most fabulous version of you… but you, nonetheless – hehe!  After all, the man waiting at the other end of the aisle proposed to you – the woman he loves most; so, it would be really nice if you could let that be who he sees on your big day!

All that being said, you can imagine my delight when I read this on People.com:

“I’m Southern,” she (Carrie Underwood) says.  “I like big hair and eyeliner.  I want my wedding day to be me, so I’ll probably be rocking some big hair and some eyeliner.”

F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S.  I always knew that country cutie was one smart cookie, but I had no idea her genius was so down to earth.  I’m assuming since we have so much in common – blonde hair, stunning good looks, impeccable singing voices and sheer genius, haha! – that we’re basically best friends… sisters from another Mister, if you will.   (Yeah, I took it there.)

And since BFF’s share everything, I believe I have the perfect wedding ‘do for you… mine!

It’s big, long, blonde and country…

AND, not even The Governator can outshine its celebrity swing!

Okay, so it’s not the real Governator, but it’s still a pretty sassy ‘do!  I loved my hair because it was so “me,” and considering the fact when I Google “Carrie Underwood,” I get nothing but big haired results, I’d say she’s following the golden rule rather nicely!  Way to be you, Ms. Underwood!  And *CHEERS* to soon joining the Mrs. Mafia!

***Extra Fact*** Carrie Underwood also shows up hand over fist when Googling “wedding hairstyles.”  I’m telling you what, this girl’s got it on lock, and here are some of the ‘do-riffic reasons why…

Unveil A New You: How Vintage Hair Clips Can Give A Fresh Look To Any Bride

Bridal-Hair-AccessoryAfter the ceremony is complete, many brides opt to let their hair down… literally.  The “I do’s” are done and the celebration can begin, which is why so many ”Mrs.”es opt to alter their overall look before entering the reception arena.

Perhaps they bustle their dress.  Or maybe they put on their dancin’ shoes.  I’ve even seen some brides pull an Oscar worthy performance and change wardrobes altogether – ultimate diva move, if you ask me :)  But regardless of what is (or isn’t) in your bridal budget, a great number of brides will show up to their reception looking slightly different than they did just minutes before, even if their only change is that “new wife glow.”

More often than not, however, a great number of brides will take off their veil and replace it with something a little more maintainable, and one accessory that deserves some serious snaps are vintage hair clips.  These tiny treasures had me doing a double take when I saw them highlighted at a local bridal fair.  Not only did they look absolutely stunning, but they truly have a luster, fit with old world charm and timeless twinkle.

From simple and chic to bold and daring, these era inspired gems come in a wide array of designs, making it easy to fit every bride’s style, taste and look.  Feel free to get inspired by online stores such as HairBoutique.com or SmartBrideOnline.com.  And if inspiration strikes you and you find yourself to be a bit of a crafter, take these ideas to your local crafts store and make one of your own!  It’s a perfect DIY, money saving project!

Let’s Be Honest: It’s All About The Hair

Bridal-HairHow many of you brides out there have designated yourselves self proclaimed beauticians?  How many have spent hours printing out celebrity photos and salon styled looks to emulate?  And how many spend more money on hair products than groceries?  If you answered “yes” or “me” to any of the previous questions, please know that you are not alone… as I am right there with you.

I’m not sure whether it’s the perfectionist or the artist in me that has never allowed another set of hands to quaff my locks, but either way, Mary’s Mane (yes, I just spoke in third person) has only ever been handled by her.  Every prom, every wedding, every special occasion… ever… I have done my own hair, and not only have I done my own, but as luck would have, I end up doing everyone else’s as well.

In fact, I went to my first high school homecoming with wet dog hair because I didn’t allow myself enough time to primp after I was finished primping others.  Haha, jealous?  I guess you could say, I like making things look pretty.  That goes ESPECIALLY for people.  The right makeup paired with a great hairdo can bring confidence to even the meakest women – not to mention the strongest men to their knees :)

So, it’s no surprise that most women want to have porcelain perfect skin and the BEST hair day – not just of their lives – but EVER in the history of the universe.  With that said, I’ve begun the tormented, unending process of printing, practice primping and planning what sort of hairstyle will be my cherry on top.  In all my studying, I have found several sites that have been great help, which I share with you now; so that you may go out and conquer your wedding, your friend’s wedding or simply your night out!

DailyMakeover.com and InStyle.com let you try on all sorts of celebrity hairdo’s (and don’ts) on yourself.  Simply upload your picture and go to town!  Even makeup moguls such as Cover Girl and MaryKay fashioned similar software into their programming; so, you can literally try before you buy.  And the best part is, all this fun is absolutely free!

And since I’m all about hair and celebrities, I love love love TheHairStyler.com because it allows you to search for your fave famed characters, upload a picture of yourself, and try their look on you!  Below are just a few bridal styles I liked…
