Hello, my name is Mary, and I’m a celebrity TV junkie.
There, I said it. And because everyone knows the first step on the road to recovery is admitting you have a problem, I feel some solace in knowing I’ve put it out there for all of you… especially since one of my ultimate guilty pleasures is anything E! related.
Currently, one of the shows topping my list of must-see’s is Joan River’s Fashion Police. The woman has been around for.ev.er both in comedy and fashion bashing, but there is just something about her abrasive nature and no-holds-bar humor that still gets me. She’s literally the only woman who can do what she does and can get away with it.
I like to think it’s mostly because she’s old(er), and everyone knows as many people age, they begin to care a little less… well, about everything… manners, social norms, PC terminology, etc, but I also think it’s because she’s never – and I mean NEVER – afraid to make fun of herself or others. And even though I can’t be certain, I can’t help but think the famous Dr. Seuss quote is her mantra:
Say what you mean and mean what you say, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind :)
Recently on E!’s Fashion Police - co-hosted by Giuliana Rancic, George Kotsiopoulos and Kelly Osbourne – there was a segment about how this holiday season is all about Winter White! Winter white, which is often times described as a richer, creamier cousin to the white family, is an ideal choice for all you fabulous brides-to-be out there!
Maybe you can’t afford all the name brand designers celebutantes do, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t be inspired! Some of the shorter, sassier numbers would be perf for your rehearsal dinners, not to mention a formal shower or fashion forward bachelorettes! So, without further adieu, here were some of the celeb looks that ranked highest on their list :)

My unmistakable friend, Kimmi, on her wedding day! (photos courtesy of photosbyjennifer.com)
This past weekend, the Mister and I had the distinct privilege of witnessing one of my favorite people in the whole world say ”I do” to the man of her dreams, and if it’s alright with all of you, I’d like to share their fairytale now…
I first met my dear friend, Kimberly Marie Kessel (now Mrs. Witchger!), freshman year of college during our four year stint at the greatest place on earth… IU Bloomington (siiiiighhhh). And after nearly nine years of friendship, I can honestly say, she was and still is one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever been granted on my journey.
An endearingly quirky and sincerely loyal friend to the core, Kimmi has been my greatest teacher in the meaning of unconditional friendship. She has an innate way of making everyone around her feel appreciated and needed without the lull of motive or expectation. Her giving nature knows no limits, and her selfless demeanor and unbound caring, have provided some of my life’s truest blessings.
There wasn’t a single other person on the planet that I would’ve rather spent my “No Class Fridays” with – be it on a hung-over trip to the Wendy’s drive thru, an inevitably regretful trip to the tanning bed or a simple trip to our living room couches to watch Lifetime Movies (yeah, I said it) and anxiously await the return of our other roommates from class.
Kimmi’s the kind of girl everyone could use in their life, which is why I couldn’t have been happier when I first met her match, Billiam (pronounced Bill-lum because Kimmi already had a William and Liam in her life – haha!). It was two Halloweens ago, and if seeing them paired as Harry and Lloyd from Dumb & Dumber didn’t scream “meant to be,” I don’t know what could! **That would be them on the outside, surrounding Kim’s sister, brother-in-law and nephew. (story cont’d below)
hahahaha!
Now, my dear Kimmi has always been a creature of habit and doesn’t necessarily stray far from her comfort zone or unorthodox guidelines created, written and followed by hers truly. While some may regard the reckless abandonment of proper etiquette and rules as discomforting, I should make it perfectly clear, Kimmi and her infectious personality are the ideal exceptions that prove this very rule… she’s simply too lovable to be considered anything less. So, you can imagine all our surprise – after Billiam had been sent half way across the world to start a branch of his company in the South of China – that Kimmi was still willing to give it a go.
We all knew after Billiam popped the Q, that there was a possibility for her to move; so, as time neared their December 18th wedding, the writing became clearer and clearer and was even spotlighted during the traditional Father of the Bride speech. Mike Kessel – the ahhhmazing papa of Kimmi – laid claim to the fact that his family of four – he, his wife, Sandi and their two daughters, Dani and Kimmi – were pioneers.
While they had family all across the US, they were the first four to venture into Indiana, which transitioned beautifully into the news that Kimmi and Billiam would be using the same pioneering skills for their move to South China… China… I just keep saying it, but it still seems unreal that our little Kimmi will be 7,200 miles away!!
I mean, heck, this is the girl who would never let us say “goodbye,” because she didn’t like the permanent tone of it. Instead, we had to replace all of our goodbyes with “just one second please’s;” as to soften the blow of the time we’d spend apart. And now that our darling girl has married her Prince Charming, we’ll be provided with our lengthiest “just one second please” ever! But funnily enough, I’m not worried in the least, because after seeing the two of them grow in love, there’s not a shadow of doubt in my mind that Kimmi and Billiam would be the best, most lovesick pioneers for journeying so far away!
Their day was marked by epic moments of firework displays, confetti explosions, influential nods to their Asian Sensation future, regally assembled peacock accents and an insanely popular photo booth (propped by me!), and if it’s any premise to their future, we can all look forward to a truly beautiful love story! See what I mean… how freakin’ cute are those killer kimono bridesmaid gifts?? (story cont’d below)

Good luck to the wonderful Witchgers! May your journey be filled with more smiles, few tears and all the love and happiness you can handle! Billiam, I know there’s no man who could possibly love our Kimmi better than you, and as Dani – Kimmi’s sister and Maid of Honor – said when she ended her toast:
As you sit side by side through the roller coaster of life, remember to scream at the peaks, hold hands through the dips, laugh through the loops and enjoy every twist and turn… We love you, and cheers to many, MANY years of happiness :)
Haha, that play-on-words title perhaps could use a little tweaking, but instead of fannying about with the subject line, I figged it’s waaaay more important to share with you the MEAT of this post…
If you haven’t heard of this little dream come true, hold on to your hats, friends! Because when I first learned about the deep-DEEP discounting email list from my former wedding photographer, Jessika Feltz, via her Facebook fan page, I’ve been amazed! Groupon.com is essentially an email subscription list driven by consumers, localized by cities and empowered by a ”no holds bar” attitude of discounting. Here, I’ll let them explain:
Groupon negotiates huge discounts—usually 50-90% off—with popular businesses. We send the deals to thousands of subscribers in our free daily email, and we send the businesses a ton of new customers. That’s the Groupon magic. (Groupon.com)
While I can’t say that I’m amazed each and every single day by the coinciding deals – namely because they don’t always pertain to me, I have to admit in the very next breath that when they do pertain to me, it provides this pretty little lady with more than a bountiful benefit. Within the last week, I’ve had offers for 52% off of house cleaning services, 72% off Zoom teeth whitening, 65% off gallery canvas wrapped prints, 60% Windsor Jewelry, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Hence why this “deal of the day” provider is so great for brides-to-be! Because you’re wedding is a once in a lifetime event, why not support it with a whole bunch of once in a lifetime deals??? Maybe 75% off car washing supplies isn’t up your wedding alley, but what about 80% off spa treatments or limo services! Or how about 75% off formal wear and personalized gifts?? That’s what I thought!
So, do yourself a favor, check it out and see what kind of budget busting savings are waiting for you!
Paltrow with son, Moses (photo courtesy of haveuheard.net) & Faith Hill with daughter, Audrey (photo courtesy of countrymusicislove.com)
So, I have to be honest, the minute I heard this story, my heart literally expanded with an outpouring of “awww!” According to people.com, Academy Award winner and mega -star, Gwyneth Paltrow, is already gearing up for four year old son Moses’ wedding day debut!
After working on the set of her upcoming movie,Country Strong with Tim McGraw, the couple’s two families become extremely close – including their children, and the rest – as they say – is history. Moses - son of Paltrow and Coldplay front man, Chris Martin – fell head over heels in love with country music’s hottest power couple, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s daughter, Audrey, 9.
Asked by PEOPLE on Tuesday about Paltrow’s prediction that the kids will get married one day, McGraw replied: “That’s what I hear. That’s what I hear. Well, he better make a lot of money.” (people.com)
No worries, Tim, I’m sure being the son of a musical genius and acting legend is enough to at least give him a leg up against the competition!
And while the five year age gap between Audrey and Moses isn’t necessarily enough for this too-cute-to-boot relationship to fall under the May-December category, it just might be precious enough to make the whole world smile… at least for a little while… orrrrr (fingers crossed) for a long while!! One thing’s for certain, until it’s written in stone otherwise, I’ll be leaving my mailbox open to all future wedding invites! Haha! Hooray for baby love!
So much of who we are is because of where we come from. Our past and all the people in it not only mold us into the people we are today but will continue to shape us into the people we hope to be in the future. Being a girl who comes from an extremely LARGE, extremely loving family, I can’t help but think of the old African proverb: It takes a village to raise a child. But perhaps this is because there are enough members in my family to be a village. Don’t believe me? Check out this beast from the Mister and me’s wedding last year…
And that’s strictly just my dad’s side!! Haha! Gotta love it :)
Anyhoot, if you’re a bride that’s anything like myself, you more than likely want to have a wedding day celebration that’s just as wonderful for you, as it is for all the important people in your life. Because without your village to support you, your life just wouldn’t be the same!! Haha!
One way to do this is by displaying flashback family wedding pictures for all to see! Heirloom wedding photos at the reception is not a new trend by any means, but all the ways brides are displaying them display is! Whether brides choose to just set up pics from the days their parents said “I do” or go all out and include grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, you name it… is strictly up to you!
The Mister and I chose to use pics of our parents’ and grandparents’ wedding days, which were set up by the entrance to ensure that every one coming in could get their blast from the past early :) I’ve also seen where other brides will actually use the cake cutting photos from their family photos to decorate their cake table or toasting photos at the head table. Really it’s up to!
Just be sure to have fun with it…. because I can gosh darn guarantee you everyone else will have fun seeing them!

It’s time for all of us to put that infectious holiday spirit to work, ladies and gents in hopes that Christmas comes early for one Floridian family! When my Google Alert for “wedding news” fed me this story from NorthEscambia.com, I couldn’t help but feel the all too familiar twinge of sympathetic fear run down my spine.
Kari Doyle, a Floridian wife and mother of two, went out Christmas tree shopping this past Saturday with her two daughters, Emma 4 and Olivia 2, at the local Home Depot off Nine Mile Road in Pensacola. Much to her dismay, the joy of picking out their family tree was quickly replaced by gut wrenching panic when she looked down at her hand and realized her wedding ring was gone!
I feel comfortable using terms like “gut wrenching panic” because unfortunately, this nightmare was my reality this time last year. Not even 24 hours after the Mister and I said “I do,” we were transporting gifts back to our home from my parents, when all of a sudden, I looked down at my hand and painstakingly realized <GULP> my wedding ring was gone!!
To this day, that sinking feeling still remains, and as if reading from the pages of a classic novel, I can still remember the exact text that played through my head…
Where did I drop it? Was it outside? Inside? When was the last time I had it? Here? At my parents? In the car? Did it fall off because it was cold? I knew I should’ve worn gloves! How could I have been so careless? How did I not notice? Good grief… what am I gonna tell Tanner? (Eyes widen even further) What will he say? Is this a sign? Ugh. It could be anywhere? Where do I even begin…
Believe me, this is not a good feeling. So, my hope is… that if enough people read this and enough of us hope for it… Kari Doyle will know the joy that sooooo humbly graced me when my Mister – Sir Tanner, lord protector of wedding bands and finder of all things sacred – hollered, “FOUND IT!!!” from underneath our Christmas tree!!! Haha! That’s right… somehow my ring slid off my finger, miraculously found it’s way underneath our Christmas tree and back onto my finger again!
That was my Christmas miracle; so, Kari, here’s to yours…
***sending holiday spirit, cheer, love and prayers***
Let’s hope you get yours too!
NortheEscambia.com reports: A reward is being offered for the return of Kari Doyle’s wedding rings. If you find the rings, call (850) 572-8817.
With traditional, cookie cutter weddings becoming more and more obsolete, the DIY bride - equipped with her diva-liscious attention to modern day details and retro chic trends – has emerged bigger and brighter than ever! Because today’s weddings are less about what you should do and more about what you could do… modern day brides are finding their personal groove to be the main ingredient for making the “I do” day their dream come true.
In order to create their fairytale atmosphere, brides will most often times consider their guests. In doing so, wedding “formality” is one of the first things to go! Couples are embracing the notion of creating a celebration for all and want their guests to feel like the reception is a place they can truly let their hair down, relax and have fun; so, they’re tossing out the traditional assigned seating and catching wind of lounging in luxury. After all, what’s more comfortable than an oversized, family room couch??? Umm, nothing – hehe!
In an interview with CNN, Andrea Correale – celebrity event planner, caterer and owner of Elegant Affairs in New York – made it clear that she’s no stranger to turning ordinary into extraordinary and discussed the notion of lounge, reception seating.
“People are getting rid of assigned seating. If you want to make it one big fab extravaganza, create a setting that allows for people to get up and move around, like a lounge, and allow people to sit where they want to sit. Ditch the nameplates.” (Andrea Correale, CNN.com)
Because lounge seating works for every reception type from the super chic extravaganzas to the simple and sweet backyard BBQs, it will allow every bride the same ahhhmazing chance to create some magic!
Modern brides looking to embrace this trend-tastic decor should stick with clean lines, oversized sectionals and a crisper, more monochromatic color pallet. Think ultra plush, super chic Manhattan bar, accented by sharp architecture and dual-contrasting tones. Imagine large, statement worthy prints accompanied by modern, sleek shapes. Feel free to use vibrantly colored, track or LED lighting and pop it in whenever and wherever you can… because goodness knows, in an environment like this, it’s all about the ambiance, baby!

And if you’re a more retro rewind kind of bride looking to capture this trend, try mixing fabric colors and textures, as well patterns and designs from within the same pallet for an extra boost of vintage pop. Play up the ecclectic nature of your space by adding furniture pieces and table decorations that vary in size, shape and countour. Really try and find ways to encorporate design elements that complement each other and have fun blending! This lounge reception style is all about coordination; so, feel free to cut out that matchy / matchy hullabaloo and replace it with ooh la la oooooh!
They say that rain on your wedding day is good luck. It’s said to be a sign of cleansing, growth and prosperity for the bride and groom; so, I figure that SNOW – which is waaaay cooler and stays much longer - has to be doubly as good, right? I knew it :)
Well, even if it’s not, one thing is for sure… it makes for some in-cred-i-ble wedding pictures! And in lieu of the holiday spirit (and the fact that it was the first day for snow in Indiana – whoop whoop!), not only am I dreaming of a White Christmas, but I can’t help but to also dream of sugar plum weddings as well!
Wedding pictures in the snow – for the brides bold enough to bear the cold – really do capture a sense of magic. I mean, who remembers Phoebe Buffay’s wedding to good ‘ole Mike Hannigan on Friends??? Snooowww romantic!!! (Pun intended, haha!) Many pictures look like the pages of a fairy tale, and it’s no wonder… surrounded by crisp white and twinkling ice, any girl would look all kinds of ahhhhmazing!
